The forest was eerily silent.
Nothing could be heard in that moment. It was as if the woods recoiled in horror at what they had just seen.
Ellie had expected to hear, at the very least, the pounding of her heart in her ears, but she found herself strangely calm.
The night breeze carried a hint of smoke. It was time to move down the mountain. Without her flashlight, traveling would be slow and treacherous.
